Little Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas
Last summer, I visited the Rainbow Villa -a property owned by Grand Master Sheng-yen Lu at Redmond, Washington. That was my first time visiting the villa. One of the most memorable scene in the Rainbow Villa is the innumerous numbers of little gray baby Buddha statues. They are lined up as passages leading to Grand Master Lu's stupas at the backyard. They are lined up at the four corners of the mansion. They are by the large Buddha statues at the garden. They are inside the shrine. They are everywhere. I got excited with my point-and-shoot camera. I took several photos of the gray baby Buddha statues. Before I took photos of any Buddha statues, I always would recite a little prayer to them. I informed them that I would use my camera to capture them so that I may later on share these delightful photos will others at my website, in hope that more people could become aware of their divine energies and learn to connect with them through the power of prayers. If everyone could see, hear and sense the beyond, then everyone will realize how beautiful life is. Life is far more colorful than what we could perceive in a physical level. Believe it or not, every single one of these gray baby Buddha statues embodies a little spirit. I really saw them with my own eyes.
One Reverend told me that these statues embody the "Water Baby Spirits". "Water Baby Spirits" (水子靈) is a collective term that Grand Master Lu used for any aborted baby spirits. Back in the late 80s after immigrating to Seattle, Grand Master Lu discovered that there are many abandoned and aborted baby spirits following their living mothers. Since they have no where to stay in the spirit dimension since most mothers did not provide a proper burial place for them, they became attached to their living mothers. As they age over the years, they become more and more resentful toward their mothers. They cannot forgive and comprehend their mothers' rational for terminating their life and aborting them. They get jealous when they see their living mothers managing well in the physical dimension without ever noticing their spirit presence. They are not spiritual enlightened. Consequently, they would inflict their mothers with all sorts of unexplainable ailments, depressions and/or bad lucks as their revenge. When Grand Master Lu discovered this issue, he decided to designate the Rainbow Villa as a location to house these abandoned water baby spirits. It is in hope that by allowing these abandoned spirits a dwelling place to live in and to learn and practice Tantric Buddhism, they would leave their mothers alone. Grand Master Lu believes that by teaching them Buddhism, they would be happy and learn to eventually follow the Buddha Path.
