Say a Prayer II
Occasionally, I encounter clients who are tied up in serious nasty life situations. They often implore me if I could foresee any possibilities of them circumventing or rectifying their problems. After telepathically consulting their concerns with the Spirit Guides, sometimes I would get an adamant sign for "no" -as in "no chance of luck". Being the oracle, I always feel obligated to tell the whole truth even if it is bad news to my clients.
Despite knowing their spirit guides have deserted them to their own device on the matter, most clients would still insist me to try to look further for any signs of hope. Whenever this happens, I would strongly recommend them to pray for miracles and encourage them to re-establish their faith with their religion. Those who do follow my advise would later tell me that something did eventually work out for them one way or the other.
Not long after I wrote the article, "Say a Prayer", I had a client who challenged my belief. She was a single mom who was raising a 9-year-old son diagnosed with ADHD. Her purpose for seeing me was to inquire about her career change decision. However, during the reading, my attention was swayed by the Spirit Guides to focus more closely on her son. I informed the client that a woman whom she always found disagreeable would re-enter her life. This woman would bring nothing but woes and agonies to her family. I recommended her to avoid contact with her as much as possible and to never leave her son alone with this woman.
To my surprise, the client identified the woman in question to be her mother. According to her, her mother was deemed as unsafe and unfit to be with her son alone because she had histories of alcoholism and child molestation. She had attempted to request the Courts for restraining order but was denied due to insufficient evidence. To protect her son from the grandmother, she kept relocating every few months but the grandmother always managed to find them later on. She simply needed to trace her grandson by school admissions. The grandmother was dependent on her daughter for financial support.
The thought that her mother would find them again, disturbed her deeply. For the remaining time of the reading, she just wanted to know how to physically avoid her. I honestly informed her that there was little she could do to stop her from finding and visiting her grandson. I suggested her to pray for miracles and Angelica protection.
The client claimed that she always believed in the power of prayers. Since she was a young girl, she often said her prayers for anything she wished for. She believed that God responded to every prayer of hers. However, she admitted to me that in all of her years of prayers for improved relationship with her mother, none of them had come true yet. When she one day came home and caught her mother sexually abusing her son, she finally gave up her trust and faith in God. Although she still believed in the power of prayers, she felt that God could not resolve her issues with her mother in particular. Since her many years of good thoughts and prayers of her mother had not been answered, she asked me if she could pray for her mother's quick death from some fatal disease or cancer. She verbalized her desire of never wanting to see her mother for the rest of her life.
I patiently explained to her that it is never advisable to pray for something awful to happen to another person. The main purpose of saying prayers is to purify one's thoughts while uttering one's wishes to God, or dedicate those good intentions to oneself or others. If the motive of saying a prayer is non-virtuous or non righteous, then that is no longer a prayer. That is what I would consider a curse. God would never respond to prayers of anyone who carry ill intentions for others. In Buddhism, we believe that having such evil thoughts would render the person to attract more bad karma to himself.
I taught her to use Holy Water, obtained from any Church or Temple, and sprinkle drops of it to all corners of her apartment. This ritual is to purify and to ward off negative energy in her space. Then, I gave her a nice poster of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva to keep in her living room. I advised her to learn to chant Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's heart mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" for inner strength and wisdom. It is customary that most Buddhists pray to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva for help. The client was very open-minded to learning the entire prayer ritual. I spent 20 minutes coaching her step-by-step. She left my office feeling much calmer and with confidence that she will manage through her rough times with her mother.
It has been 2 years since we met. I have not heard from her since. The last I heard of her, the Vajra Master Monk whom I frequently visit at Chinatown informed me that my client had consulted him for further instruction as to where to place the poster and asked him for a bottle of Holy Water.
